Best Buy, Comcast offer more tech support – Bizjournals.com
Best Buy Co. Inc. is apparently planning an "all-you-can-eat" option for its Geek Squad unit, the Consumerist website reports. Meanwhile, Comcast is announcing a Geek Squad-like service in the Twin Cities and a few other markets.
The subscription service will provide unlimited tech support for customers on any computer products they own. Repairs aren't covered, just in-store services such as software upgrades, virus removal and simple installations.
One potential stumbling block is that the service is tied to the customer, not a particular product, the Consumerist said. So what's to stop buyers from abusing the service by signing up and then having friends and family pile on to their account, lending them their laptops so Best Buy can fix 'em? A Best Buy rep told the site, "We will be monitoring this as best as we can."
As for Comcast, a major cable-TV operator in the Twin Cities, it is debuting its Xfinity Signature Support service to help customers with tech problems in their homes, the Pioneer Press reports.
