Beware of Fake Trojan Virus Removal Kit – ResearcherDecember 01, 2010 /

A security researcher has warned the public of the fake trojan virus removal kit lurking around the cyberspace, waiting to infect Windows users with the ThinkPoint Rogue malicious software.

Christopher Boyd, who uses the pseudonym Paperghost in various sites, wrote on his blog site that the malicious software ThinkPoint Rogue enables hijacking into the Windows of any computer with the counterfeit trojan virus removal kit.

Sunbelt Software/GFI Software researcher said ThinkPoint Rogue could rarely be detected by the IT security software, with 50 percent chance ever recorded for the rate that it can be noticed.

Boyd said fake security scan pages like microsoftwindowssecurity152(dot)com  would normally offer the fake trojan virus removal file as a trap.

The fake trojan virus removal kit, as it is known among those familiar with this malicious software, lingers in the domains not unlike microsoftwindowssecurity152(dot)com, he added.

Boyd said it could cause tremendous damage to computers when the executable file is installed. He added that this is particularly true with the fake “Blue Screens of Death” and payment nag screens that pop up on the screen as normally as they seem to average users.

On his blog, the security researcher posted details about how to circumvent the presumed locked up desktop and how the fake trojan virus removal software appears like the malware Trojan.Win32.Generic.pak!cobra, which has been detected earlier this year.
