Centers for Disease Control identifies new swine flu strain – KSBY San Luis Obispo News
The Centers for Disease Control says a new strain of swine flu has been identified in three Iowa children.
Lab studies show this new flu virus started in pigs and then spread to humans. There have been eighteen cases reported over two years.
Experts say it is not uncommon for swine flu viruses to pass on to humans. In this case, the children had all been in contact with each other, but had not had any known contact with pigs.
The CDC says this strain will likely not spread like the 2009 swine flu, however, they have produced a candidate vaccine and sent it to manufacturers just in case.
