City Govt calls for joint efforts to combat dengue virus – Pakistan Observer
Mohammad Hussain Syed DCO Karachi informed the meeting that 90 percent of the patients suffered with dengue virus were kept in observation and platelets were provided to patients if their test proved positive. The dengue virus could only be eliminated with joint efforts, city government will carry on this campaign till November, and therefore all other organizations should include it in their preference
“City District Government Karachi has initiated Anti Dengue campaign in city, therefore all the stakeholders including government and private organizations should participate in it and make this campaign effective so that the campaign could be extended to each and every street and home of Karachi”. This was stated by DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed while addressing a meeting held in the Committee Room of Civic Center. The meeting was attended by representative of Cantonment Board, Pakistan Railway, Civil Aviation Authority, KPT, Port Qasim, DHA, SSGC, Steel Mills and officers of City District Government Karachi. DCO Karachi said that city government had already prepared a micro management plan to control the spread of dengue virus which is being implemented. Cantonment Boards should also carried out spray in their respective areas and the hospitals should setup special anti dengue cell which could be linked with the central anti dengue cell established in city government Karachi.
He said that the federal and provincial government was providing all kinds of support in this connection therefore all the officers must show full commitment and dedication. The special dengue ward established in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital can be contacted on 0800-12012 on 24 hour basis.
Meanwhile the city government taking all out efforts to remove rain water accumulated on all major thoroughfares and now drainage of water from inner roads and streets was underway. All town administration and concerned departments of city government have been directed to pay special attention on cleanliness works.
He expressed these views during a visit of Saddar Town and different localities of old city area on Wednesday. DCO Karachi said that after removal of rain water from main roads, cleaning work has been started and this would also be completed in least possible time.
He said that disciplinary action would be taken against the officers who would show negligence in the removal of garbage and waste from roads and streets.
He said that the extensive fumigation campaign was also initiated in city which will continue till November. Four towns will be covered daily during the campaign.
Meanwhile DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed strictly warned the engineers of Works & Services Department to perform field work, spot faults in timely drainage of rain water and make planning to remove them or they would have to face disciplinary action.
Addressing a review meeting of the arrangements made for rains in city he said that the performance of works department was not found satisfactory during recent rains. Tow of the senior officers had been suspended due to this, if other officers didn’t improve their performance, they would have to face same action. The meeting was attended by EDO W&S Altaf G. Memon, EDO Health Dr. Nasir Javed, EDO MS Masood Alam, EDO F&P Aamir Khursheed and other officers.
