Deadline to remove debris from Gulberg Town ends – The Nation, Pakistan
LAHORE – Parks and Horticulture Authority, Water and Sanitation Agency and Lahore Waste Management Company was given the dead line of October 12 (today) for removal of debris from different areas of Gulberg Town with repairing rusty water and sewerage pipelines.
A meeting of Town Municipal Authority Gulberg Town was held which was presided over by acting Chairman Emergency Response Committee Muhasan Latif MPA took such decision on Tuesday.
The meeting was informed that the decision was being taken in the light of Punjab Chief Minister’s directions for curbing dengue virus. The meeting also decided that as a next step, the teams of the town would point out the hot spots of mosquitoes besides checking educational institutes, tyre shops, tubewells, old and empty houses and plots through photographs while staffers of Health Department, Wasa, LWMC and PHA would provide photos as proof of cleaning after accomplishing fogging, spray and cleaning of the targeted areas.
The education department had been directed to submit reports after checking quality and cleaning of water tanks, installed in the educational institutions.
CHAIRMAN ERC VISITS UC 57: Chairman Emergency Response Committee for Dengue, Aziz Bhatti Town Lahore, MPA Rana Tajamul Hussain paid a special visit to Union Council 57, Tajbagh Lahore. Members of the committee MPA Haji Allah Rakha, TMO Usman Liaqat, Deputy District Officer Health Dr Naeem, Assistant Director Solid Waste Management Nadeem Akhtar and Tehsil Officer Shahzad Iqbal, along with the officials of Health, WASA and Solid Waste Management departments also accompanied him. The committee inspected the tubewells, solid waste management, cleanliness and dengue spray arrangements in the UC area. A good number of citizens gathered during the visit and they thanked Chief Minister Punjab for making due arrangements to overcome dengue. The citizens showed their satisfaction over the activity of the Emergency Response Committee in the area.
Chairman Emergency Response Committee Rana Tajamul Hussain, on this occasion, assured the citizens that Punjab government under the able leadership of the Chief Minister was following short term, mid-term and long term policy to eliminate dengue virus. He was hopeful that the dengue disease would very shortly be uprooted from the province.
STRATEGY EVOLVED TO CURB DENGUE: Member National Assembly Mian Marghoob Ahmad said on Tuesday that government had evolved a comprehensive strategy to curb dengue. All segments of society should come forward and stand shoulder to shoulder with the government and contribute their due share in the efforts being made by government for the eradication of dengue virus. He said that anti-dengue public awareness campaign could prove fruitful only if people took an active part in the drive. Government officers and officials of the concerned departments should play an effective role in creating awareness among masses regarding preventive measures against dengue.
He expressed these views while talking to mediamen during his visits to the areas of the Samanabad Town. Town Municipal Officer and other concerned officers also accompanied him.
He inspected the tubewells of Poonch Road Chauburji Quarters, G-Block Gulshan-e-Ravi, Usman Park, A-Block and Nadeem Park and took serious notice of the water leakage.
He directed the concerned officers to check all tubewells of Samanabad Town and make proper arrangements for drainage of water in case of leakage so that growth of dengue larva could be checked.
He also visited greenbelt of the main road of Gulshan-e-Ravi and inspected the drains which were closed since long due to garbage.
He expressed his displeasure and warned Solid Waste Management and WASA officials to clean the drains and make them functional within one day and submit a report.
WOMEN CAN PERSUADE FAMILIES: Women can effectively organise and persuade the families regarding protective measures of dengue fever.
Students can inform the society about preventive steps against dengue virus in a better way and positive results have been brought out after the participation of students.
The students were apprising the people about spray and precautionary measures against dengue virus in individual and collective communication.
