Defence Center Virus: Removal Guide – Product Reviews (blog)
A month or so ago I posted an article showing users how to remove the Security Suite virus, this proved very popular and helped hundreds, if not thousands of users to clear their computers of the nasty infection, now we are hearing that a lot of people have been infected with similar infection called the Defence Center Virus.
The Defence Center infection is very similar to the Security Suite infection, it is a rogue application which tricks you into thinking it is legitimate, once running it incorrectly sends you warning messages to try and make you purchase the app DO NOT PURCHASE IT.
This guide should help you remove the infection from PCs running Windows 2000, XP, Vista and 7, I will do my best to make it as easy to read as possible.
Removal Guide
Step 1 – Download the following apps (click on the app names to download), rKill, iExplore, eXplorer, Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware and CCleaner. The infected computer may not allow you to download these apps, therefore you can use another PC and copy them to CD/DVD or a USB storage device.
Step 2 – For best results you need to run your computer in Safe Mode with Networking. To do this shut down your computer and turn it back on, before the Windows loading screen shows you need to constantly tap ‘F8’, if done correctly you should see some boot options, use your keyboard to choose ‘Safe Mode with Networking’
Step 3 – You must run rKill to kill any dodgy processes running in the background, if rKill fails try iExplore or eXplorer.
Step 4 – Install CCleaner, once installed run the app, on the left you should see a button that says cleaner, click this and then click run cleaners. Before doing this ensure you have nothing you want to keep in your recycle bin.
Step 5 – Once CCleaner has cleared the file build up install Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware, once installed run the app. The app should show a few tabs for you to navigate through, click on the update tab, click check for updates and wait a while, this should ensure that you have an up-to-date version of the app.
Step 6 – Click the Scanner tab in Malwarebyte’s Anti-Malware, tick ‘Perform Full Scan’ and the click on Scan. This will take an hour or so (depending on the PC), once complete click ‘Show Results’ and then click ‘Remove Infections. The PC will have to restart, however once complete you should find that Defence Center has disappeared.
Step 7 – Once the infection is cleared be sure to install all of the latest Windows Updates and make sure your Antivirus software is set to automatically update and run automatic scans. If you have no AV and are not in a commercial environment download AVG Free.
I hope this helped clear your infections, if not leave a comment below and I will try to help.
