Dengue victims data in 72 hours – The Nation, Pakistan

LAHORE – Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif says a committee has been set up to collect within 72 hours data of those who have fallen prey to dengue virus. Heirs to all these victims would be paid a compensation of Rs 500,000 each, he said while presiding over a meeting of special committee set up for eradication of dengue virus on Sunday.
MNAs, MPAs Chief Secretary, secretaries of various departments and experts attended the meeting. The Chief Minister said that all out resources are being utilized for curbing dengue virus and a campaign against dengue is being run as a movement. He said that besides creating awareness regarding eradication of this virus among the masses, special steps are also being taken for providing training to the persons associated with medical field for treatment of this disease. He said that the process of training of doctors and nurses has been started in various hospitals by evolving a comprehensive system of training in this regard.
Mr Shahbaz Sharif said that training of doctors and nurses is of great importance, therefore, maximum participation of doctors and nurses should be ensured in training programmes and these programmes should also be monitored. He said that Institute of Public Health has to play an important role in training of doctors and nurses, therefore, solid steps are being taken for activating and mobilizing this Institute. Similarly, training for doctors of private and charity hospitals regarding dengue has been made compulsory and a programme has also been evolved for this purpose.
He said that the heads of government hospitals should be informed about those displaying best performance in providing treatment to the dengue patients. He said that through this step, they will improve the performance of those hospitals, the performance of which is not satisfactory and it will also promote a spirit of competition for improving the performance. Terming the performance of entomologists during dengue campaign as excellent, he said that best persons should be selected for recruiting entomologists.
He said that a campaign is also in full swing for eradication of larvae of dengue mosquito and this larva has almost eliminated at public places. However, larva is being found in desert coolers, he added. He directed that a comprehensive awareness campaign should be launched for eliminating larvae from the houses and citizens should be informed as to how the larvae can be eliminated from the houses. He said that besides tyre shops, steps should also be taken for eradicating dengue virus from scrape houses. He directed Chief Secretary to evolve such a foolproof plan regarding the business of tyres through which not only dengue virus is eliminated from these places but the business should also continue and no one should be rendered jobless.
The Chief Minister said that the role of young generation in the awareness campaign against dengue virus is of great importance and the students of the schools will have to play a leading role in this campaign and create awareness among their family members and the neighbourers about it. He directed that a plan should be evolved that how maximum male and female students can be included in this awareness campaign. He directed that the “Qadam Barhao-Dengue Mokao” campaign should be further accelerated in the province and the elected representatives should play the vanguard role in this campaign.
He also appreciated the performance of Secretary Cooperatives in the meeting. Earlier, Secretary Health gave a detailed briefing regarding dengue situation, steps taken for its eradication and curative facilities in the hospitals of the province. Secretary Environment gave a detailed briefing regarding tyres whereas Commissioner Lahore about fogging, spray and removal of garbage from the city.
