Downtown computer business open in Mt. Pleasant – The Morning Sun
John Levy and Scott Briggs are excited to be a part of Mt. Pleasant and the downtown community.
Computers To Go opened up for business in August.
"We're making a permanent stand," co-owner John Levy said. "We bought this building, we're not here to try something out.
"We are part of Mt. Pleasant now, we are committed to being here."
Located at 203 W. Broadway, Computers To Go specializes in two major areas of service: custom computer building and repair
Levy and Briggs are able to order a wide number of custom parts and build a customer's dream machine.
However, repair is the biggest and most popular part of the business.
"We don't sell Dell or HP computers, we fix those computers," Levy said. "Our philosophy coming into this business was that we can make old computers last longer."
In order for the technicians to be thorough, almost every computer with a problem will be given a diagnosis to determine the problem.
Once that is determined, the proper steps will be taken to fix the computer. Continued...
If parts have to be ordered to fix it, they will be ordered, if they can't be ordered from a manufacturer, chances are Briggs and Levy could have a spare part or two lying around one of their two other stores, located in Midland and Saginaw.
They can have parts brought to the Mt. Pleasant store.
Technicians at Computers To Go will also make home and office calls in order to meet the customer's computer problem needs. And those making those house calls include the Levy and Briggs.
"When I'm with the customers I'm a technician," Levy said. "When I'm on call, I'm the repair guy.
"When I have to do payroll, I'm the boss. I'm who they need me to be at that time."
The best part of Levy's job is being a technician; he said he loves being able to diagnose and fix a computer.
Diagnosing computers is standard in the shop and always comes at the flat rate of $40.
Virus and spyware removal costs $70 and repairs can vary depending on what they are, but all nine workers at Computers To Go will explain what is wrong, how to fix it, and how much it is going to cost to get the computer running again, Levy said.
"We go out of our way to help every customer who comes in here," Levy said.
Aside from fixing and making computers, Computers To Go also offers a wide array of classes to help people learn their way around a computer. Continued...

"We teach Photoshop, Apple classes, backup, and set-up classes," Levy said.
Computers To Go has some extra space and the owners are looking to put together a joint venture with somebody who is looking to start a business.
"It doesn't have to be computers," Levy said. "We want to find another business and work together to better the community.
