Ga. Computer Depot fixes computers, gives back – Cedartown Standard

How does a small local business in Cedartown thrive in difficult economic times?

According to Georgia Computer Depot, located at 1389 Main St. at the corner of Cason Rd. and Hwy 27 S., a classic combination of word of mouth advertising and giving back to the community will sustain a business in any economy.

After relocating to Cedartown from Orlando Fla. in June of 1999, Georgia Computer Depot was founded in 2001 and is owned an operated by Jeanne and Ray McCrary. The Depot’s services span a wide range of consumer needs, including virus removal, hardware and software troubleshooting, and data recovery. The Georgia Computer Depot also sells affordable computer merchandise and new and refurbished PCs.

“A lot of people need computers, but many people can’t afford a new one,” said co-owner Ray McCrary. “It’s our goal to provide the people in this area with a means to purchase a quality computer.”

All refurbished computers—some for less than $200—are fully installed with Windows operating systems and virus protection, and come with a full six-month warranty.

Georgia Computer Depot builds new desktops and laptops for business and home users as well as custom game machines, while offering free diagnostics for customers having issues with their PCs, Macs, or laptops.

The business also offers affordable off-site backup for businesses or individuals that are concerned about losing valuable information in the event of a network or system crash.

For the McCrarys, though, service is the foundation of a business, and the feature that brings back customers again and again.

“Our business is predominately word of mouth,” says McCrary. “So many people come in and say their brother, sister, or mother sent them.”

Georgia Computer Depot serves clients in Taylorsville, Rockmart, Aragon, Bremen, Buchanan, Rome, Silver Creek, Piedmont, and Lindale. When asked about the benefits of serving in a community like Cedartown, McCrary had good things to say.

“Generally, the people here are really pleasant to work with, and they send their friends to us for the same help they received. People are honest.”

The business involves itself in several programs that give back, including regular donations to local Shriners’ causes and a program that supplies donated computers to low-income families.

For the past year, Georgia Computer Depot, in conjunction with local women’s shelters, has taken donations of computer components, refurbished them, and donated complete computers to lower-income families in North West Georgia. More than 50 families have benefited from this work.

The McCrarys continue to provide excellent service and superior products to the region, while maintaining a generous mindset that allows their business to thrive, and welcomes any and all new customers with a smile.

“Tell ‘em to come on down.”
