Goo.gl Virus Strikes – Solaria Sun
Goo.gl Virus Strikes – Users using Twitter are now at risk as Goog.gl virus strikes, claiming as an anti-virus software and then when downloaded “tweets” on Twitter with a link in hopes of infecting other users.
The Google “goo.gl” shortening service, gives links in their twitter posts that when clicked brings you to a site claiming that the user’s computer is infected and makes you download the infected “antivirus” software. Upon installation, it then posts on your Twitter account.
This prompted Twitter to take action as the Goo.gl Twitter worm may have found access to a user’s account through a stolen account and a password. According to Graham Cruley of security firm Sophos, these malicious links end with “m28sx.html”.
A person has to authorize external applications to allow them to post tweets which concerns experts that it may have stolen user details, prompting an advisory to users to change their passwords when they realize that their account may be infected with the Goo.gl Twitter worm.
Twitter’s security chief Del Harvey, in his tweet, posted that they are on the process of doing links removal and password resets on compromised accounts.
In the past, Goo.gl was also used as links directing to a French furniture site will propagate an infected worm into your computer.
Keep posted for more on Goo.gl virus strikes.
