The Check Disk virus ( or malware, however you want to call it ) is a rogue disguised as a system utility software that’s supposed to find what’s wrong with your computer and then help you fix it. But guess what? Its creators have no desire to help you whatsoever…they’re just trying to scam you and get their hands on some of your hard earned money.
Once installed, Check Disk will start each time you login to Windows and will display various error messages that will prompt you to scan your system with Check Disk.
The rogue will then perform a fake scan that will end with a lot of critical errors that, of course can only be fixed after you purchase Check Disk.
But wait…there is more – Check Disk will also make some of your folders display no content or the content that should normally be located in other folders, in order to make you think your HDD is corrupted.
Check Disk will also prevent you from using an Anti-Virus Software ( or any program for that matter ) by terminating it as soon as you launch it. Of course it will then show a message stating that Windows has detected a hard drive problem. But enough is enough…let’s see how can we get rid of this annoying little bugger.

How To: Remove Check Disk Malware ( Removal Guide )
- It is possible that Check Disk will prevent you from connecting to the Internet. If this happens then you have no other choice but to download the files needed to remove Check Disk on another PC, and then to transfer them to the infected computer via USB, CD/DVD, external HDD, or anything else you can think off.
- In order to prevent Check Disk from interfering with your removal process, you first must download RKill.com.
- Once the download process has finished you must run rkill.com in order to stop the processes associated with Check Disk ( this might take some time so be patient ). When the process has finished the black window will disappear, and you’ll be able to continue with the next step.
NOTE: Check Disk might try to prevent you from running rkill.com by displaying fake infection messages. Just ignore them and if rkill.com gets terminated, leave the warning on-screen and run it again. If you encounter these problems and you find yourself unable to continue to step 4, you should download iExplore.exe or eXplorer.exe from the same link where you found rkill.com. These executables are just renamed copies of rkill.com and can help you overcome the problem we talked about above.
- Next, you need to download and then install Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware ( aka MBAM ) by following the on-screen instructions. Make sure you leave both “Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware” and “Launch Malwarebytes‘” checked.
NOTE: If MBAM prompts you to reboot the system, don’t listen to him. We know better. - Once you get MBAM running click on the Scanner tab, select the Perform full scan option and then hit Scan. You can now go get yourself a coffee, a Coke or something, as the scanning process takes quite some time.
- When MBAM finishes doing his thing you should click on the Show Results button, and then on Remove Selected to get rid of the Check Disk Malware software once and for all.
NOTE: If MBAM prompts you to reboot your PC, this time allow the software to do so. Once you’re logged-in into Windows proceed to the next step. - After the malware has been removed, MBAM will display the scan log in Notepad. Examine this at your will and close it.
That’s it, you should now be free of Check Disk.
