The Defense Center virus is one of the fastest spreading malware out there. Defense Center, like any other rogues (such as the Antivir Solution Pro we talked about yesterday) will try to trick you into believing your computer has a security problem so that you buy the program.

Note: Defense Center is a virus that claims to be a legitimate security application. In other words, it is a scam, and you mustn’t pay for the full program under any circumstances. Instead, use the Defense Center removal guide below to remove the Defense Center virus from your computer using legitimate security software.

How to Remove Defense Center (Virus Removal Guide)

How did the Defense Center virus get on my computer ?

The Defense Center virus gets on your computer when you visit infected websites, download infected flash updates or used a fake online virus scanner.

What does Defense Center do ?

Once the Defense Center virus gets on your computer, it will start each time your Windows operating system loads and perform a fake virus scan of your computer. The scan results (just like the other security messages you will soon start to notice popping up on your computer), are completely fake and the only thing you should do is remove Defense Center from your computer as soon as possible.

The Defense center virus will also try to uninstall any anti-virus software you might have installed on your computer.

Now for the main course:

How to remove the Defense Center virus ?

Step 1: Restart your computer in Safe-Mode with Networking (press F8 while Windows is loading, then use the directional keys and press enter once you’ve made your option).

Step 2: As reported up until now, Defense Center does not tweak with your LAN / Internet settings, so you should be able to connect to the Internet and download the following files on your desktop:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware – We will use MBAM as our main virus removal tool

SuperAntiSpyware – This will be our secondary anti-spyware solution, just in case MBAM doesn’t work for you.

Step 3: Run the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware setup from your desktop. Proceed with the custom install settings (unless you really know what you are doing). Make sure you tell MBAM to update itself (there’s a box you should check during the install process).

Step 4: Once MBAM is up and running, go to the scanner tab, select “Perform full scan” and then click “Scan” and wait for MBAM to scan your computer for any traces of the Defense Center virus, as well as any other malware your computer might host.

Step 5: When the scan is complete, select all the detected infections, and click “Remove Selected”. When this process is complete, you should have removed the Defense Center virus from your computer.

Step 6: If MBAM didn’t do the trick, repeat steps 1 and 2, then install SuperAntiSpyware, perform a scan and remove all the detected infections.

If the Defense Center virus managed to infect your computer once, there is a big chance you might get it again if you don’t take some safety measures, such as:

Make sure your Windows OS has all the security updates installed
Make sure that your antivirus solution is updated.
If you don’t have an antivirus solution already installed on your computer, Avast Internet Security and MSE are 2 of the best free anti-virus software out there at the moment.
If you are using Internet Explorer, make sure you have the latest version installed (you might also consider using a more secure browser such as Opera, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox)
Last but not least, make sure your Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader are updated. If Sun Java is installed on your computer, make sure that’s updated also.
