How to remove Security Suite (Virus Removal Guide) – Free PC Guides (blog)

Posted on 16. Aug, 2010 by Free PC Guides in Virus Removal Guides

The Security Suite virus is one of the most aggressive rogues that have been spreading online in the past few days. From the same family as Antivir Solution Pro, Security Suite has the same goal as its older brother (trick you into believing you have a virus on your computer so that you pay money for the full version) but is a little more aggressive in its pursuit for your money. Fear not, as I’ll show you how to remove Security Suite in the removal guide below.

Once the Security Suite gets on your computer, it will start each time Windows loads. The first time, it will perform a fake virus scan. Please note that even if your computer is clean as a whistle (“clean” as in “no other virus other than Security Suite”), it will still tell you that your computer is infected. Conveniently enough for the criminals that created Security Suite, this fake antivirus will tell you that you have to pay for the full version in order to remove these infections. And it might look like you have no other choice, as you will be unable (until you learn how) to launch any legitimate antivirus software, connect to the internet, run the main part of your programs and such. Not to mention that Security Suite will basically “bombard” you with warnings after warnings telling you that your computer is basically going to die unless you pay money for Security Suite so you can remove these viruses.

Note: Do not pay for Security Suite. It is a virus and your credit card will be hijacked. If Security Suite got on your computer, you should remove it as soon as possible.

Here is my guide on how to remove the Security Suite virus (rogue):

Step 1. Just like Antivir Solution Pro, the Security Suite virus might block your Internet connection. As we will be needing a couple of (free) tools to remove this virus, you should download them on a non-infected computer and then transfer them to the infected one using an USB drive or a CD/DVD. Place all the files on the desktop.

The tools we are going to need are:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware – MBAM will scan your computer for any viruses and remove them

iExplore.exe – A great tool developed by Lawrence Abrams from bleepingcomputer.com. It will stop the Security Suite process, so we can remove it using MBAM.

Step 2. Now restart your computer in Safe Mode with networking (press F8 while Windows is loading, then use the arrows to make your selection and “Enter” to confirm).

Step 3. As we will want the Security Suite process not to interfere with our routine, the thing we need to do now is close it. For this, we will use a tool created by Lawrence Abrams from bleepingcomputer.com, called rKill, but renamed as iExplore so that Security Suite won’t know we’re trying to… oh well… kill it.  Run iExplore from the desktop a bunch of times, even simultaneously until Security Suite is closed. Don’t worry if it doesn’t take the first times. Some of you will have to run it a lot before Security Suite is closed, but the end result is worth this.

Step 4. Now that Security Suite is closed, we want to remove it. For this, we will use probably the best malware removal tool out there, called Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware. Run the setup from the desktop and follow the instructions to complete the install process.

Step 5. Once MBAM is up and running, go to the “Scanner” tab, click on the “Perform Full Scan” radio button and then click “Scan”. Don’t worry if this takes a while, MBAM is very thorough in searching for malware (Security Suite included).

Step 6. When the scan is complete, select all the detected results and hit “remove”. Now wait for MBAM to remove Security Suite from your computer (as well as other malware it might have detected on your computer).

Step 7. Although Security Suite should be now gone, we’ll still need to reverse the changes it did to your proxy settings (That’s why you can’t connect to the Internet). Open Internet Explorer and go to Tools->Internet Options. Now click the “Connections” tab and then the “LAN Settings” button in the lower part of the window. Uncheck the “Use a proxy server for your LAN” box, and then click OK.

By now you should have removed the Security Suite virus and any related files from your computer. If you are having any additional problems, drop a comment below and we’ll try to figure something out.
