How to Remove the Internet Security 2010 Virus ( Virus Removal Guide ) – Free PC Guides (blog)

Posted on 24. May, 2010 by Andrew Rumsey in Virus Removal Guides

The Internet Security 2010 virus is one of the most aggressive members of the nasty (and constantly increasing) rogue anti-spyware programs family. While it does not matter if you call it the Internet Security 2010 rogue, the Internet Security 2010 virus or any other name, you probably reached this page trying to find out how to remove Internet Security from your computer (and without it coming back the second you removed it).

First of all, you have to know that the Internet Security 2010 virus was designed to trick you into believing that your computer has severe security issues. The goal is that you buy the full version of the program.

Do not buy the Internet Security 2010. It is a fraud / scam / virus and the only thing you need to do is follow the steps below to remove Internet Security 2010 from your computer.

But first, you should know that Internet Security 2010 got on your computer when you downloaded an infected “codec pack”, flash update, used a fake online scanner. When Internet Security 2010 is installed, it be automatically configured to start each time Windows loads. From here on, it will perform fake scans of your computer, warning messages, pop ups, etc. Obviously, these are all fakes and you should take no action, since you will remove all viruses from your computer – Internet Security 2010 included – using the removal guide below).

Ok, so let’s not waste any more of your time and start the removal guide.

How to Remove the Internet Security 2010 virus

As the Internet Security 2010 might not allow you to download any files on your computer, you might have to use a clean computer to download the tools we’ll recommend and then transfer them on the infected on using an USB stick.

  1. First of all, we’ll have to make sure that the Internet Security 2010 process is terminated. For this task, we will use the best tool around for ending malicious processes: rkill.com (developed by Grinler from bleepingcomputer.com). Download it for free here.
  2. Then we’ll need a tool to help us remove Internet Security 2010 from your computer. The #1 tool for this is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Download MBAM for free.
  3. As a safety measure, we’ll have to remove the temp files from your computer. Ccleaner is my tool of choice for this. Download Ccleaner for free.
  4. Ok, so now we have the tools we need to remove Internet Security 2010 from your computer. Make sure that all the tools you downloaded are placed on the desktop. (This is where you’ll have to use the USB stick to transfer the files if Internet Security 2010 is blocking any downloads).
  5. Close all open files and apps (yep, this one too). Now double click on rkill.com for several times until the malicious process is terminated. It might not work the first time around, but it will eventually get the job done. Keep running it until Internet Security 2010 is not running anymore.
  6. Now run the MBAM setup. Proceed with the standard installation (make sure you tell it to automatically update itself in the process).
  7. Once MBAM is installed, go to the main scanner tab, select “Perform full scan” and click “Scan”. Now wait for MBAM to scan your computer for the Internet Security 2010 virus, any related files, as well as other malware you might have on your computer.
  8. When the scan is complete, select all the detected infections and click “Remove all”. Now let MBAM do its magic trick. When the scan is complete, a log will open in a notepad window. Close it.
  9. Now run Ccleaner and delete all temporary files. The process is fairly intuitive, but we covered more about temporary files in the “How to remove temporary files in Windows Xp, Windows 2003 / Vista / 7” guide. Just as a side note, you should probably let Ccleaner take care of any Registry problems you might have.

Now you should have successfully removed the Internet Security 2010 virus from your computer.

If you encountered any trouble, leave a comment and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
