Windows Smart Security is a rogue anti-spyware (that means a scam) that will try to trick you into believing your computer is infected and that you have to buy the program to get rid of the infections on your system. Here are a few quick steps you can follow to remove/uninstall Windows Smart Security Virus / Malware.
Windows Smart Security is not as much of a virus as it is a rogue anti-spyware (malware, scam). It works very much like Cyber Security, Security Tool, Green AV Antivirus 2009 and Windows Police Pro (if you have these programs installed on your computer, click the corresponding name to find out how to remove them) Windows Smart Security will automatically “fake” a scan of your computer when it is installed and will tell you that you have numerous security problems. These are all lies, as the program itself is an infection.
Windows Smart Security will also display numerous security alerts and warnings. In a terrible grammar, it will tell you that you are at risk for loss of data, identity theft and bank account theft and that you have to pay for the program to remove these problems. Chances are that the only way you will be a subject for these problems is if you actually buy the program. Another thing Windows Smart Security does is display a fake Windows Crush (that blue-screen that we all hate) that fakes a problem with NTFS.SYS.
Do not buy the program. If you already did, you should immediately contact your credit card company so you can dispute the charges. To remove Windows Smart Security, follow these steps:
- First of all, you should print these instructions out. This is because in the process, you will have to close all open windows.
- Click here to go to our download page and download “Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM). Save the file to your desktop.
- Close all open windows and double click on the MBAM setup file that you saved earlier. It should be named “mbam-setup.exe”.
- Follow all the installation prompts and make sure that you leave all the settings to default. When the installation is complete, make sure that the “Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware” box and the “Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware” one are checked and then click “Finnish”.
- Press OK if prompted to update MBAM. When the update is finished, go to the Scanner Tab, select the “Perform Quick Scan” option and press the “Scan” button. This may take a while to complete.
- When the scan is complete, press OK to the message and then go to Scanner screen and click on “Show Results”.
- Now you will be taken to a screen where all the malware found by MBAM on your computer. Make sure all the infections are selected and press on “Remove Selected”. A reboot may be required in order to delete some of the files, so allow MBAM to restart your computer if prompted.
- When the removal process is complete, a notepad window will be displayed with the scan log. Read it if you want and then close it.
- Exit MBAM and you are done. You should have removed any trace of Windows Smart Security from your computer.
