Windows Fix Disk ( or WindowsFixDisk ) is yet another malware / virus that gets installed on your computer via Trojans and then acts as an analysis and optimization program in order generate false information about the system it infected. The Trojan will start displaying error messages that once clicked they will trigger the download/installation process for Windows Fix Disk.
After the installation Windows Fix Disk configures itself to launch automatically at system start-up. Once launched, Windows Fix Disk will generate error messages whenever you will try to run programs or delete files, protecting itself from future anti-virus programs the user might attempt to run/install.
After displaying these error messages you will be prompted to scan your system. The initial scan is a fake and it will display numerous false errors, WindowsFixDisk claiming that these errors can not be solved unless you buy the full version of the product. Do not let yourself scammed into giving your credit card information, as the “full version” is nothing else than a fake Disk-defragmenter tool. Once launched, the fake defragmenter tool will state that it needs to run in Safe Mode then it will display a fake Safe Mode background and yet another fake defragmentation progress window.

WindowsFixDisk will also attempt to convince you that your hard drive is corrupted by making certain folders on your computer appear empty by adding the “hidden” attribute to all the files in these folders, and then changing your Windows settings so that you can’t view hidden files and folders.
In order to remove Windows Fix Disk from your system, first you will need to download Rkill.exe and Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware.
Keep in mind that Windows Fix Disk might prevent you from downloading anything on the infected machine. In this case you will need to download the necessary files on another computer then transfer them onto your machine using an optical or USB flash drive.
- Run RKill to close all the processes associated with Windows Fix Disk. If you’ll get a message saying that RKill is a threat don’t worry as it’s just another fake message. If Windows Fix Disk will close RKill once this message appears, leave the message on screen and run RKill again. If you’re still having troubles running RKill try downloading another renamed version from the provided link.
- After downloading MBAM move it on your desktop, close all windows and application and start the installation. Follow the on-screen instructions making sure “Update Malwarebytes’ anti-malware” and “Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-malware” are checked.
Do NOT reboot your computer after finishing the installation.
- Run Malwarebytes’ and update it if needed, then perform a Scan by clicking the “Scanner” tab. Make sure that “Perform full scan” is checked before starting.
- After the Scan is complete click on the “Show Results” button and make sure every box is checked before clicking “Remove Selected“. If MBAM prompts you for a reboot in order to remove some of the files, then do so.
If everything worked as intended your computer should now be clean.
