How To: Remove Windows Vista Repair Virus / Malware ( Removal Guide ) – G 4 Games

Windows Vista Repair is yet again one of the many fake computer analysis and optimization programs that get installed on your computer via Trojans.

First the Trojan infects your computer and starts displaying fake warning messages and Windows alerts. The Trojan then suggests that you download and install Windows Vista Repair, a program that supposedly is the only one that can get rid of these problems. Once you agree with this and press OK, Windows Vista Repair will automatically be downloaded and installed on your system.

Once Windows Vista Repair gets installed on your system it will then display fake information regarding the security of your system and it will try to convince you that the only way to solve these issues is by buying the full version of the Windows Vista Repair. However, you need to remember that this is merely a scheme in order to scare you into paying money and give away your credit card information. Do NOT buy the so called full version as it is nothing more than a fake disk-repair utility.

Besides the fact that Windows Vista Repair has an aggressive behavior, displaying all kinds of fake warning messages, this malware will make your life a bit more difficult by making some of your files hidden, not letting you execute programs and even preventing you from access the internet. It does all these things so it can protect itself from potential anti-malware programs that you might download and run on your system. However, there is a solution to all these problems.

Windows Vista Repair Removal Guide

Before you get on with the disinfection process you will need to download RKill, Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM) and optionally Unhide.exe

*Note that as we’ve mentioned before, you might not be able to access the internet from your infected machine. If this is the case you will need to make use of another working computer in order to download the necessary programs and transfer them on the infected machine via CD/DVD, USB flash drive or any other means.

  • You will need to start the disinfection process by killing any processes related with Windows Vista Repair. In order to do so you will need to run RKill. What RKill does is scan your computer for these kind of malicious processes and attempts to kill them. Run RKill and let it scan your system. It might take a while and you might get some warning messages regarding the security of RKill. If so, please ignore them. After RKill finishes scanning do NOT reboot your computer or you will need to start all over.

*Note that RKill might not work for you. If so, click on the RKill download link and download another renamed version of the program, like the iExplore.

  • In the next step you will need to fix your internet access problem. MBAM needs to be updated after installation and that’s why we need to fix your internet and get rid of the redirects. Windows Vista Repairs usually comes packed with TDSS rootkit infection and you need to get rid of that before you continue on. To get rid of TDSS please follow this guide. In case that didn’t help either and you are still unable to access the internet then follow this other guide.
  • Start the installation process for Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware (MBAM). During the installation process make sure that the buttons labeled Update Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware are both checked. Click the Finish button after installation is completed and reboot your computer if prompted to do so by MBAM.
  • MBAM should now start automatically after the reboot and it should show you a message box. Press OK on that box and you will be presented with the main MBAM window. Click on the Scanner tab and check the Perform Full Scan radio button, then press the Scan button below.
  • After the scanning process is complete, make sure all the threats are checked and then press the Remove Selected button. Once the disinfection is complete you might be prompted to restart your computer. Please do so.

Now that you’ve got rid of Windows Vista Repair you need “unhide” your files. To do so, either follow this guide or run Unhide.exe.

As a security measure you should also follow this guide in order to get rid of the vulnerabilities from your system with the help of Secunia PSI.
