JANICE ANN’S JOURNAL: Lufkin’s first Foreign Exchange student returns to visit … – Lufkin Daily News
Georges Burki, the first Foreign Exchange student in Lufkin, returned for another visit with Jody and Jimmy Tinkle. This time he brought his two girls from Switzerland to visit Texas. Linda and Howard Daniel were perfect hosts and let the girls, Alem and Dagma, help feed and water the horses and pet several of them. They really like Texas “rodeo” items. Linda gave each of them a stuffed toy and lip gloss which was a big treat. They speak Swiss-German and French and have learned several new English words; hot dog, hamburger, taco and ice cream and doughnuts. Georges requested to go to some of his favorite places he frequented 32 years ago when he was a student at Lufkin High School. These included El Chico, Lufkin Bar B Q and the Airport Cafe for hamburgers. Martha Carswell suggested they try the water spray at Chambers Park, which they loved. The train ride at the Ellen Trout Zoo was a favorite of the girls because it went faster than the others that they had ridden. On his next trip he will bring his two boys. Georges and Chrystal adopted all four kids from Ethiopia. Georges still played a mean game of pool against Jon Tinkle.

I had a visit with Lori Crawford, who is the marketing director for Quality Care Services, Inc. She has private duty care and personal care for people after home health has performed their duties. This is paid for by long-term care insurance, workmen’s compensation and private pay. They do not accept Medicare or Medicaid. She has applications for caregivers and needs clients. Their telephone numbers are (936) 632-7135 or 1-888-832-3002 or you can visit the website at qualitycares.com. These caregivers do light housekeeping, laundry, wash dishes, bag garbage, make beds and change linens, shop for housekeeping essentials, perform reading and writing tasks, prepare and serve meals, escort clients on trips for health care and services, care for routine hair and skin needs, assist with taking self-administered medications, assist with personal hygiene care, transferring and ambulating, G-Tube care — medication and feeding, diabetic care — reading and insulin shots, bathing, dressing, feeding, exercising and grooming. If you have questions, contact Lori. They are bonded and carry liability insurance. Being licensed by the state, they are required to perform a criminal background check on each employee. They are dedicated to providing care for whatever length of time you need. That means one hour to 24 hours a day seven days a week. Each situation is different. They are companions, providers and sitters for home or hospital.
