Max 5 Computers Offers Hometown Help – Boone Mountain Times
Viruses, malware, SPAM and spyware just some of the words you hear when talking about problems with personally and professionally used computers. Of course other problems can arise brought on by anything from lighting strikes to plain old neglect. When problems do come up Ricky Rash knows just where you should go: Max 5 Computers.
Rash, the sole owner of the six-year-old business that for most of that time was located at 411 South Main Street, Jefferson, has made himself a new home on 2nd street in West Jefferson, just across from First Citizens Bank.
“We moved here to provide a better location for our customers,” Rash said.
In the new location, customers will find top of the line products to keep Windows based computers running at optimum levels. But sales also play a part in the business.
“We sell new Acer and Asus laptops and custom build new desktop computers as well as repair computers with various PC-based operating systems,” Rash said.
Business for Rash has been good and getting better; something he attributes to his business ethic of treating everyone fairly and the fact that many people are choosing to upgrade and repair existing systems to avoid the expense of buying new. That’s just fine with Rash.
“I don’t see any reason to replace your PC until it won’t do what you want it to anymore. There is just no need to put out the kind of money you have to, to upgrade something that is still operating properly,” he said.
Rash says that while repairs and upgrades aren’t free, they aren’t going to break the bank either and that price isn’t an issue as his prices are right on par with the usual retailers in the market. According to Rash Max 5 is, “right there with Staples, Best Buy and outlets like that.”
Virus removal is the common problem that customers come in with and Rash says that some can be very nasty. According to Rash, “there is no real way to prevent them.
“Any anti-virus software is only good up to the date that it was made. Anti-virus programmers are always reacting to viruses that come out. There’s just no way to predict a virus so, they have to wait until someone gets it and then react to it, to fix it.
Of the many websites that people visit where they can pick up viruses, the one Rash says is causing a lot of trouble, and “nobody wants to know about, is Facebook.
“Everybody uses it and so it’s a perfect place to get an infection. Of course emails are still bad and always will be.”
Malware and spyware are also problems according to Rash and traditional virus removal software will not remove them. “They don’t identify them as problems, but they can damage your system just the same.”
“Some even send out a false message of problems to get you to buy software to remove a piece of malware that they infected you computer with.” Rash said.
One of the main things people should do according to Rash is keep their machines as dust free as possible. “Especially if it is a gaming machine with extra fans. Use compressed air; just don’t get water on the board.”
All in all regular maintenance will keep most machines running fine. But when you do need work done Rash, and his staff, are ready to serve your needs.
Max 5 Computers is located at 303-D East 2nd Street in West Jefferson and is open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
