New Microsoft Malware Cleaner – Windows 7 News
With a rise in malware, users are warned that they should have a virus protection/detection/removal product installed on their computer device. In May, Microsoft published a blog entry “Security Intelligence Report: Cybercriminals Increasingly Targeting Consumers.” There was this warning “From the latest report, we see these attacks being run like marketing campaigns and fake product promotions, especially during significant events that generate a lot of media attention.”
Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper
So you install a software protector, like Microsoft Security Essentials, or other software. You are protected. But what if the attack you receive does not allow the Malware protection software to run? What do you do now? Microsoft has just released a product called the Standalone System Sweeper (Beta), which can be launched from CD or USB stick. According to Microsoft “it is meant to be used in situations where you cannot start your PC due to a virus or other malware infection.”
How it Works
There are 32 and 64 bit versions of the software.
You need to have a blank CD, DVD, or USB drive with at least 250 MB of space. Download and run the tool, which will help you to create the bootable media required to run the software on your PC.
Note: The architecture of Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta does not have to be the same as the Windows operating system of the computer used to create the bootable media; however, it does need to be the same architecture (32-bit or the 64-bit) as the Windows operating system of the computer infected with a virus or malware.
On-Demand Scanning
Last month Microsoft also released another malware scanning tool, The Safety Scanner. It works with your existing antivirus software. It is a free downloadable security tool that provides on-demand scanning and helps remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. Presumably, if your existing software does not pick the malware, this one hopefully will. Error Codes for the Malware are provided at How to troubleshoot an error code.
These three Microsoft tools, Security Essentials, Safety Scanner, and Standalone System Sweeper will help you keep your system workable.
