SE offers free computer clinic – Durant Daily Democrat
Thankfully, there is an option for people living in Durant, right on the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
The SE Tech Squad will hold its monthly free computer clinic on Tuesday, April 6 in the computer lab of the new general classroom building on Seventh Avenue, on the west side of campus.
The idea for the clinic was a pet project for associate professor Ming-Shan Su, who helped to start it last July.
"We started this service because we wanted to help people in the community,” Su said. “We’ve helped professors and students on campus, as well as people that live in the area.”
Su and his crew of about eight students and professors help anyone who comes in with virus problems, networking problems and other simple computer repairs.
“We’ve had faculty, adjunct professors, alumni and students to help us at the clinics,” Su said. “It's been a combination of people here to help.”
On average The Tech Squad has serviced computers for about 12 clients at each clinic, with help promised for the first 16 people that show.
Services offered include the aforementioned virus/spyware removal, repairs, upgrades, maintenance consulting and installing or reloading the operating system hardware or software.
Clients are asked to be there by 5:30 p.m., as virus scans and repairs can take as long as an hour-and-a-half. Owners of desktops need only bring the CPU, while laptops owners are requested to bring the computer and the power cord.
The doors will open at 4 p.m. There will be a free seminar on wireless networking and computer security from 7 to 8 p.m.
