Technology summit will look at new possibilities for Hancock County; Group will help businesses use �œwhat�™s next”
Western Illinois Technology Services Group is presenting a technology information summit, open to the public, on Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Sullivan and Son Auction Center, eight miles south of Carthage on Rt. 336, from noon to 6 p.m.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. After the presentations, from 4:30 to 6 p.m., there will be time for networking and conversation with snacks and a cash bar available.
The following topics will be featured: Social Networking, Google Apps, Future of Email, HP Products, Secure Networks, Trend Micro Virus Protection, Virus Removal, Broadband Update, Fiber Optics in the Home, Smartphones in the Workplace.
Representatives from area computer and technology companies will present the various topics in 20 minute sessions, and many will have booths set up with more information and door prize drawings.
Representatives of Illinois Broadband will be on hand to share information of how other regions in Illinois have greatly expanded their broadband offerings, and explain what to expect next.
This event is for everyone, business owners, IT employees, and the general public, and all sessions are free. The Western Illinois Services Group was started in mid-2011 by a small number of IT (information technology) professionals: Hancock County Health Department, Greg Sandidge and Becky Roskamp; Memorial Hospital, Jeff Dedey; Carl Sandburg College, Kris Dittmer; Carthage Veterinarian Services, J. Brown, Michael Russell and Eric Altheide; and DISTek Integrations, Matt Dickinson.
The group defines its purpose as expanding services and service areas for broadband internet connections, assisting others with tech issues, advocating for tech infrastructure improvements and networking anyone involved with tech in business.
The group plans to collaborate with regional and state resources, expand to include county and regional key contacts and involve as many people in the area as might have needs or interest.
