As with all rogue applications ProAntispyware2009 does only one thing. ProAntispyware2009 tries to scare consumers into buying a program that infected their computer to begin with. Simply put, ProAntispyware2009 can infect a computer in many different ways, but mainly through a trojan like the Zlob trojan.

Trojans like Zlob have dozens of variations that change almost daily to stay ahead most protection programs on the market. One thing to consider when shopping for all types of protection programs is that programs that used by the majority of the population tend to have more types of malware designed to bypass them. Most of the variants of the Zlob trojan are designed to bypass the most trusted names in computer protection.

When ProAntispyware2009 does get installed it fills the computer screen with warnings saying that the computer is infected and the only way to get rid of the infection is to purchase ProAntispyware2009. The fact is even if a consumer buys ProAntispyware2009 the problem is still there and in many cases the problems only get worse.

What makes ProAntispyware2009 one of the more dangerous types of rogue antispyware is that the scammers that use this software to con people also have setup a very realistic website designed to convince people that the software is legitimate. The website even has an awards page and all kinds of reviews that talk about how great the software is.

If some has an infected computer all of their searches related to ProAntispyware2009 are redirected to one of these websites with glowing reviews. ProAntispyware2009 is designed to filter out all other information of the dangerous nature of the software, giving consumer a false sense that the rogue application is actually good for their computer.

The tricky part of any type of rogue application is removing it from an infected computer. Most of the applications have all kinds of ways to re-infect a computer during the boot-up phase. Also many rogue programs have code designed to block most genuine protection programs.

Could The Conficker Virus Have Been Written By The Antivirus Industry?

The Conficker Virus.

One of the most infamous pieces of malware to be written in the last few years.

Or was it?

Back in April it seemed like the whole internet was holding it’s breath, just waiting for Conficker to do something, and something terrible at that.

Ultimately, however, nothing much did occur.

Sure, anyone infected by the virus would become a zombie, but not in the Resident Evil kind of way – their computers would become part of a botnet under a remote user’s control.

Whilst botnets can be used for spam and DDoS attacks, not much of this activity has been evident with the Conficker Virus.

Instead, it would appear that all this worm has done thus far is utilise scareware in an attempt to get people to buy fake antivirus programs.

Thats hardly worthy of all the fear it created around the net is it?

And yet the hype still continues, with antivirus vendors continually harping on about how their products offer the best protection against the worm.

Conspiracy theorists and cynics alike mike be tempted to conclude that the security industry has a vested interest in the success of threats and exploits as they keep them in business and make them money.

Some may even suggest that the antivirus industry has a hand in writing the newer viruses themselves.

Whatever you believe, the fact is that Conficker hasn’t really done much at all but that doesn’t mean that its gone away or should be forgotten about.

After all, all good viruses rely upon stealth and the writer(s) of Conficker have the ability to modify it’s code at any time.

I believe it will come back with a vengeance in the near future.

What do you think?

Lee Ives sometimes wonders whether the antivirus industry could be selling the solution to the viruses they write? Controversial, huh?
