Protect Your Computer – Valuable Information

A few simple tips could help protect Web surfers from a low-tech tactic used by high-tech thieves: disguise. Hackers have found ways to impersonate banks online, to pretend to be your social networking acquaintances and even to disguise themselves as long-lost friends. It’s all in an effort to spread computer viruses and other malicious software that allow criminals to hijack personal information, trick users into purchasing fake anti-virus programs and more. Fortunately, some basic safe-surfing practices and the right security software can help keep you safe.  Looks Can Be Deceiving. Always visit banking and financial sites directly, not through links you receive via e-mail. Such links often take you to Web sites that look exactly like your bank’s but are actually clever forgeries that steal whatever passwords or account numbers you enter.

Rogue software has glided onto the Internet as of last November confounded the efforts of top security experts to eliminate the program and trace its origins and purpose, exposing serious weaknesses in the world’s digital infrastructure. The program, known as Conficker, uses flaws in Windows software to co-opt machines and link them into a virtual computer that can be commanded remotely by its authors. With more than five million of these zombies now under its control — government, business and home computers in more than 200 countries — this shadowy computer has power that dwarfs that of the world’s largest data centers. Alarmed by the program’s quick spread after its debut in November, computer security experts from industry, academia and government joined forces in a highly unusual collaboration. They decoded the program and developed antivirus software that erased it from millions of the computers. But Conficker’s persistence and sophistication has squelched the belief of many experts that such global computer infections are a thing of the past.

What You Need To Know About Macintosh Data Recovery

If you are one of those people that own an Apple or Mac computer then you should be aware of the data recovery functions of you system and how to use them to your advantage. Mac users think that they are impregnable from all forms of hacks and viruses. This is of course not the case as people using the Mac OS X system are quite prone to attacks. Data loss from a Mac is exactly the same as it is from a PC.

Macs statistically are subject to less attacks and failures when compared to PCs. This is true but what you need to look at is the number of Macs versus PCs. There are many more PCs being used than Macs so the statistics do appear to be in the Macs favor, but in actuality this is very misleading. Macs are just as exposed to danger from viruses and hackers as any other computer.

Mac Computers still are vulnerable to viruses and this will, of course, corrupt data on your hard drive and is a common cause for a system to fail. Clashing of programs on your computer will also result in data loss and program malfunction. The two types of failure that can cause data loss are physical and mechanical.

There are some factors that make Macs just a susceptible to damage. There are several components to your Mac that actually use PC parts. If the virus is targeted to that part then your computer will be infected. Also some viruses attack specific applications no matter the computer or operating system, if it is that program is present then the virus will attack.

To protect your self from virus related data lose you should make sure to carefully observe all download request and never open mail with attachments when you don’t know the sender. Make sure your security and virus software is up to date, be sure to frequently back up your data and if you can declare your computer on your insurance policy.

Software recovery programs are designed to be used with certain operating systems so be sure that you check that the software you are downloading is compatible with the OS that you are using. If you are unsure of what your compatibility is then you should contact Mac and seek advice and they will tell you which is the best recovery software to use with your operating system.

Make sure you use recovery software programs that are made for Mac OS X. The best decision would be to get the work done by a software specialist before everything is lost. This software may be very difficult to sue and if you make a mistake you could destroy your data.

If you want to use download a recovery program from the internet then you should refrain from using the infected computer as this may cause more damage to your system. Try and use another computer to download the software on to so that it will not harm the infected one any more. You should also try and leave as much available space on the infected system until the problem is completely solved and your computer is back up and running again.
