Getting Rid Of Trojan Vundo Virus On Windows Vista?
I have a virus/trojan on my computer called “Trojan Vundo” and my Norton anti-virus can’t seem to get rid of it! I’ve tried downloading the patch from symantec but it doesn’t seem to pick up the virus. I think thats because its meant for Windows XP, not vista.
Its $189 to get it done by a pro where i am and i can’t afford it! Anyone had this virus/has suggestions on how to get rid of it?
The trojan Vundo is very hard to get rid of. The reason being it infects your registry folder. This is an area where most antivirus programs do not scan. But you need to remove the registry infections in order to get rid of the virus. I use a program that performs a deep embedded registry scan when detecting viruses. To prevent a Vundo re-infection:
A very common method of infection is through outdated versions of Sun Java; older versions have vulnerabilities taht are being exploited so it is important to firstly make sure that your Java software is fully up to date. And remove any old versions of Java, that may still be on your computer. Use your Add / Remove programs.

To protect your PC in the future you’ll need to install anti-virus software and a firewall, id recommend using Avast and Comodo Pro firewall both are very effective and completely free, you should also switch to Firefox 3 if you are browsing with IE as its much safer and a lot easier to use. F8 – By pressing the F8 key right when Windows starts, usually right after you hear your computer beep when you reboot it, you will be brought to a menu where you can choose to boot into safe mode. If it does not work on the first try, reboot and try again as you have to be quick when you press it. I have found that during boot up right after the computer shows you all the equipment , memory, etc installed on your computer, if you start lightly tapping the F8 key you will usually be able to get to the desired menu.
